I am so happy to report that on this past Sunday night, in Easton, Pa, Connie surpassed any performance she has done in many, many years! She was truly incredible. I was concerned, after the hospitalization in July and doing a long show the night before in Rahway, NJ. I was afraid she might be too tired to be fabulous. But, FABULOUS she was. She was in very strong voice. The chest voice and the upper register was equally as strong and beautiful. When she opened up, the chandelier shook! I don't know what she has been doing for the last year but she better keep doing it. It agrees with her. The entire voice is strong, unwavering and as beautiful as in the days of old. I couldn't believe what I was hearing Sunday night, my eyes filled with tears, and my heart was filled with pride and happiness for her, someone who certainly deserves the triumph after so many tough years. When you look back at her concert schedule, she has done more shows in the past 2 years, at 68 and 69 years of age, than she has in years. Next year is looking just as busy. AND, she's onstage for over 2 hours. WOW! Who among today's talent does that?
It's a new show now and it is incredible. No glitches except the sound, and no memory lapses. Lots of new songs added and ALOT of new video, pictures, and press clippings on the screen. It's the first time she hasn't opened with "Let Me Try Again". I missed it, but I understand. It's a new era. Several of the old hits and faves were added that we don't often get to hear, like "Frankie" and "I'll Be Seeing You". The Sinatra tribute was wonderful. "Who's Sorry Now" and "Where the Boys Are" were the strongest and most beautifully sung than I've heard in years. The second half opened with less of the Italian fest we usually get, but that left room for all the added stuff. Thank God she closed with the usual "If I Never Sing Another Song" and "God Bless America" and brought the house down. Only disappointment there was the audience. They were in a hurry to leave and she didn't get to take a last bow. On the down side, of course there was the usual problem with the sound system. In both acts, it took 2 songs to get the mic adjusted against the orchestra. Those old theaters are a problem for the massive sound systems they have to bring in.
What a night! I am still on a high. This grand lady is the reason I went on to get a degree in voice and became a singer myself. That's how much she inspired me. I got to tell her that again after the show. (If only I could have achieved 1/1000th of what she has done.) My greatest wish in life is to sit down and chat with her for a half hour!! I am so blessed to have seen (and heard) her again.
And... I've already got my tickets for Red Bank in April. Thank you Connie. You are loved.

Connie sang "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" at her show last night. At the end of the song Connie said, "speaking of dimes, thank you everyone form spending your dimes to come and see me tonight". A very appropriate song for these economic times. One of my favorites was when Connie sang "I'll Be Seeing You" in her tribute to Frank Sinatra. She also did an Edith Piaf song which gave me goosebumps.

Staten Island Concert Review by Jan de Gee
April 12, 2008
My son and I started out on April 9th from Dusseldorf Airport in Germany, which is nearer to his and my home than Amsterdam Airport.
Our first surprise in the airplane was that, after having received earphones to listen to radio or TV, when we turned on the radio the first track that was played was one of Connies (Die Liebe ist ein seltsames Spiel). You probably can imagine how surprised we were. My son looked puzzled and asked how this could be possible.
Upon arrival early that night at JFK airport someone called my name and it appeared that in the row next to us (waiting for the immigration procedure) there were our Dutch friends and Connie-fans Alie and Nel and Hans and Joan, who had been travelling by plane from Amsterdam. We knew of course that theyd come too.
The first two days EJ and I spent in Central Park, China Town, Little Italy, Statue of Liberty Island and Ellis Island and probably some other places. In the NY Official Visitors guide Connies concert was announced this way: ... The historic St. George Theatre, the upcoming lineup features evenings with comedian Joy Behar, songwriter Doc McLean en 60s pop darling Connie Francis. The popular songstress performs her greatest hits from the 50s and 60s on one night only.
When the great day arrived - April 12th - Alie, Nel, Hans and Joan came to our hotel and together we went dowtown where after a coffee-break we would meet Pat Niglio. After Pat had arrived and we had greeted him, together we went to the Staten Island Ferry. After having left the boat we went to the theater. I was disappointed that there was no billboard or so announcing Connies show. We got in and waited for Connie to start the rehearsal. When she entered she greeted everybody who went up to meet her whole-heartedly. It appeared that Connie herself and everybody around her knew about our Dutch group. Anyway Pat had informed Connie about it.
Connie didnt rehearse all the song she did in the show, but some of them like "My heart has a mind of its own" and Fever.
During the rehearsal I collected EJs and my concert tickets and spoke briefly to Mike Church. After Connie had left by the end of the afternoon the Dutch connection went out to dine together with Sandra and Pet, two women from New Jersey who are friends of Hans.
We went back for the show at 8 pm. We all had good seats in front of the theater. Unfortunately my photocamera broke down. I was somewhat embarrased about it, but fortunately my son had his camera with him too and he could make some nice shots.
Connie came on stage and the audience went wild. For both parts of the show she wore black. Connie looked very good.
The songs in her show were:
Her own hits (some of them complete, some in a medley): Whos sorry now - Stupid Cupid - Lipstick on your Collar - Frankie - My Happiness - Among my souvenirs - Everybodys somebodys Fool - My heart has a mind of its own - Together - Vacation - Follow the boys - Where The Boys Are - Mama.
She opened the show with Let me try again. Other songs in the show were: You dont have to say you love me - Fever - Unchain My Heart - La Vie En Rose (as a tribute to Edith Piaf) - Old Time Rock and Roll - Exodus/Havah Negilah - Italian medley: Scapricciatiello / Chellu Lla / Luna Caprese - If I Never Sing Another Song - Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody - Malaguena - Ill Be Seeing You and God Bless America. (I hope I mentioned every song she sang).
Connie was in good spirit and in good voice. I personally think she was especially very good at the up-tempo songs and the more theatrical songs. My favorites in the show were:
Unchain my heart - Fever - Mama - Malaguena - Old Time Rock and Roll - La Vie En Rose - Exodus/Havah Negilah, the Italian medley and God Bless America. I was surprised how good her pronunciation of the French was in La Vie En Rose. Connie got several standing ovations. She made the jokes we all know, but also improvised on the occasion. On behalf of the group Alie had wanted to give Connie a bouquet of flowers, but due to a misunderstanding this went wrong and it didnt happen during the show. Connie then remarked that probably someone had given them to Brenda Lee instead.
At the start of the second half of the show her microphone didnt work. She went backstage and shortly after came on again (with a new or fixed one). The showing of Dick Clark announcing Connie and "Whos Sorry Now" in 1958 was without sound and Connie said she wanted to hear his words in her next show, because without Dick she wouldnt have been in showbusiness. When she began singing Where The Boys Are the clippings from the movie didnt start. I dont see it Connie said and some other remarks. She joked about so many things going wrong that night, but these were all technicalities.
With Connie herself nothing was wrong. She was great. The orchestra was great, too. Connie mentioned the Dutch group in the show and said special thanks to Pat Niglio for his help with her foreign language songs.
After her very moving God Bless America (everyone stood up and sang with her) and the standing ovation people wanted to see her of course, but it all was quite chaotic. After a while Connie came out to the lobby and fortunately she herself remained very relaxed. Friendly, smiling, laughing, talking all the time. I must also say that Terry Hall was very very friendly towards the Dutch group. I lingered around for a while.
My son has a beautiful picture of Connie which she especially autographed for him. (I have one too of course).
Hans and Alie had made a very special (not-for-sale) book for Connie, about Connie in the Netherlands. Hans has shown it to me before he presented it to Connie and it is a very beautiful item. Hans and Alie did a great job and Connie is very pleased with it.
By midnight we left with our memories and together with Pat Niglio we went to the Staten Island Ferry to return to Manhattan.
Pat and my son talked with each other a lot in the Brazilian/Portuguese language, so I dont know what secrets they share now (My son lived and worked for three years in Brazil).
It has been a very memorable night. This has been my very first live Connie concert ever, since I became a fan in 1960!
Monday night, April 14th, the Dutch connection (Alie, Nel, Hans, Joan, EJ and me) went to Little Italy for a farewell dinner and we had a wonderful night together. The four of them left NY one day earlier than my son and me.
This special day of April 12th, 2008, will remain among my most precious souvenirs!
Staten Island Concert Review by Edward Sarosi
April 12, 2008
What an evening, what a happening, what an excitement, what a miracle! My biggest dream became reality. Unbelievable, unforgettable!! Im just a guy from the Netherlands. For my 60th. birthday I got an incredible birthday present from my partner and my young nephew. A one week holiday to New York, including a Connie Francis concert. Wow!! Isnt that more than a wish come true?
Ive been a big fan of Connies since my youth (since 1958). The first time I saw Connie live was in 1996 in London. She was very great then, but now, april 12 th. 2008 in the St. George Theatre she was even greater, better, looked more beautiful, sounded much better and her appearance was so touchy. She even touched the heart of my young nephew of 25, a heavy metal fan. No other entertainer, male or female could do that ever.
She was so pretty, very slim and her charisma and powerful voice shook the audience. That really was Top entertainment. So classy!! Beside her own big hits like Whos Sorry Now, Stupid Cupid, Where The Boys Are, Lipstick On Your Collar, Everys Somebodys Fool, etc. She sang also her other big hits like Follow The Boys, Frankie, My heart Has A Mind Of Its Own, Hava Nagila, Malaguena, Mamma, Luna Caprese. She started with Let Me Try Again and ended with If I Never Sing Another Song". She returned once again to sing God bless America and the whole audience stood up and sang along with Connie as loud as possible.
Me myself, although Im not American I couldnt control my tears. I got the same emotions when Connie sang Mamma on a totally dark stage with only a spotlight on her and when she sang Hava Nagila with so much feeling. It was like she was singing straight to my jewish grand parents. She sang more great songs, like Unchain my heart and Fever. Not even Ray Charles or Peggy Lee sang those songs so touchy.
The show consisted of two parts. In the first part she sang her greatest hits and Unchain my heart, and Fever. In the second part she sang also in Italian, Jewish, Latin and French (La Vie En Rose), Rock-a-bye Your Baby and more. In her first appearance she wore black pants and a nice black blouse and in the second she wore a beautiful black evening gown with a bare back.
After the fantastic show the fans had the chance to speak to Connie, make pictures with her and ask for her signature. That moment, that possibility was to us even more then winning a lottery. After being a big fan of Connies for 50 years finally I was allowed to sit next to Connie, to speak to her and ask her for her signature.
After all this I got a warm hug and a kiss from Connie. I wish I shouldnt have to wash my cheek ever again.
Connie, thank you so very, very much for the unforgettable evening and for being in my live. Ill never forget you. Youre really a great star. It was very nice too to make a personal acquaintance to Pat Niglio. Hes also a very friendly person.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to my partner and my nephew for my wonderful birthday present and thank you again Connie Francis and Pat Niglio.
Greetings and warmest regards from Amsterdam (Holland),
Edward Sarosi

Coral Springs Concert Review by Linda Torrance
March 15, 2008
This was my first time to ever see her perform and then meet her in person and get her autograph. The show was much more than I expected and to see her actually perform was wonderful. I especially loved her new songs and the energy that she showed on stage and the way she speaks to her audience. She had them eating out of her hands and rightfully so! I especially loved, Unchained Melody and she looked like she had a great time singing it. Their is only one Connie and Im so glad that I finally got to see her sing, with that beautiful sweet voice that she has. I can see that everyone enjoyed it as well as I did. The reception after was also very nice for her to put on for some of us and I was blessed and happy to be there. To watch all the love that everyone showed her and her showing hers in return, showed me what a wonderful and genuine person that she was with her fans.
Thanks Connie for a great show!

The new things in the show are great, she really did an awesome job on Unchain my heart WOW... and Fever, gives you one lol.
Oh How WISH could join you all in NY... but would not have wanted to miss this time for anything in the world. It is truly the best of my Connie memories to date!
I just wish so much that 2 people who should not be here could have made it. That was the ONLY not-perfect thing about this weekend.
I usually understand her unless loud music is playing. But, I found her to be in great form and spirits last night. She was feeling pretty good, today she was tired. But last night even after the show at the gathering she was in good form. She is ALWAYS so gracious to everyone.
I am very happy you were there and got to see this show... The people going to NY next month are so lucky, the new show is AMAZING! I so wish I could be there too...it was such fun meeting all of my list friends... I hate missing those going to NY... You will enjoy it, and I will be there in spirit.
We all showed up at rehearsal... Mike C, naturally working,(which he does quiet well) So many wonderful people from this group and their partners, or husbands or just alone with the group! Cora, Eric, Fran, Paulette, Glennis,Bren and Jean, I sat and spoke with Bobbys (the drummer) wife, what a sweet woman, I gave her my extra ticket so she was next to me for the show, so we exchanged comments during the show and I thought how wonderful it was to sit next to someone who knew so much history about Connies career) Our girl was BREATHTAKINGLY AWESOME, not only the way she looked, but the way she sounded.
Rehearsal was fun and I took some photos, but in a mad rush to get to the show on time, I forgot my camera and backstage pass! Precious Cora and Jean and I think Eric got some, Terry let me in anyway (Thanks Terry, what a doll).
Connie came in to rehearsal with a lovely off white jeans outfit, she looked awesome with her short wig, the song list was different. That was great, she has added some new material to her show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I brought my bag of things to get her to sign them, but she left after the rehearsal and I only got time to give her the book and the messages. So, I was going take them tonight and have her do them at the party she had after the show, but left that too, so I got nothing signed. I am BUMMED. But tomorrow I will try to catch Terry and see if I can get time to get them done before mama and I leave.
But, Jean and Bren were smart enough to bring theirs, and when Bren gave her our book to sign, she said, OH I LOVE THIS I asked her if she had a chance to look at it. I read the whole thing. So you all need to be happy that you made her such a nice tribute, I explained to her how Gerrit came up with the idea and had it printed and gave her a copy for all of us. Yes all of the notes were inside of the envelope!
Mike C. had the new shirts and Bren, Jean, me, and even my mama got one!
I have got to say this, Connie Francis is 97.5% BACK TONIGHT! She sounded better then I have heard her in years,(live) she had great control and it was outstanding. She got several standing ovations! ALL WELL DESERVED!
She wore two lovely black dresses, When she sang Where the boys are they went crazy, I guess since it was about their area helped! Mama always does it, She did some new jokes and some of the good old ones... even the slide show is different! She added FEVER to the show and OMG, this is PERFECT for her and in her usually funny way she had to add Im turning myself in which naturally made everyone laugh.
Dear Cora was kind enough to take my picture with her and we even got one with my mom, me, Bren and Jean together, as soon as she sends it to me, I will put it up on the photo section. Bren and Jean also took some photos.
Joey was there and boy has he grown up since I last saw him in 1988! He is still cute as ever, I guess I need to say HANDSOME at his age though!

Coral Springs Concert Review by Jean Cannizzaro

I have yet to recover from the excitement of being at Connies show ~~ the evening was magical from start to finish. From the standing ovation as she entered the stage, Connie had the audience in the palm of her hand.
Her voice was strong and clear, and she looked flawless, changing from one gown to another during a short intermission.
While the show was basically familiar to those of us who have seen her perform, she added a few new songs, changed and expanded the video, and diversified her monologue somewhat.
Receiving standing ovations several times during the performance, Connie brought the house down to the loudest and longest when she sang God Bless America to close. When she did Where The Boys Are there was a roar from the audience that was probably heard back in Jersey!
The show was a sell out, the crowd came to see The Legend, and Connie did not disappoint us!! Truly a night to remember.
This was the first time I have seen Connie perform and she was great!! Interesting to note she has fewer wrinkles than I do at 55! It was such a thrill to see and hear her and to see the audience respond so well. I was wondering, though why it was so difficult to understand her spoken word. Hearing her joke about Fever, i.e., I think Im turning myself on! And comments about marriage, the gist of which was Id be having sex with someone other than myself. Naughty, but VERY funny.

I am sitting in the business center of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Manila. Connies flight home just took off about 40 minutes ago. I am leaving the Philippines myself on a flight tonight at 11:10pm to go to Hawaii for a few days.
The show was amazing! The Araneta Coliseum was pretty full. I would guess there were about 8,000-9,000 people there. She did her normal show, plus songs like Wishing It Were You, Never On Sunday, High Noon, Second Hand Love, and oh I forget them all...LOL. She got a standing ovation at the end, and the crowd begged for her to come back on.
I did take a bunch of pictures of our stay here, including Connie receiving a star on Aranetas walk of fame. I did not get performance shots, as I was busy directing the show. As soon as I get home I will upload pics.

Show was great, all 1200 seats sold out. There were some problems with Connies microphone and general sound system during rehearsal but virtually all was worked out by showtime. Don Tittle was not there but his son filled in for him (a challenge but he did a good job all things considered).
I arrived earlier in the day to observed the rehearsal and later met with Connie. Connie is planning a tour with Frankie Avalon this year and they will meet in March to work on arrangements. She is still working with Gloria Estefan on the movie about Connie.
Some of the seats up front were dinner tables which had a great meal. View was great for us at the dinner tables. Overall show of the music and Connies performance, her interpretation and interaction with the audience. It is difficult for me to describe so I passed out my CF website cards to people asking for them to send me reviews!
It is always great to see Connie live but I really want others to send me their reviews. She did a wonderful rendition of Frankie (yes, she will do this song while on tour with Avalon). Connie performed the much loved song Mama which the orchestra did not rehearse and they were right on cue with Connie. For many people this was their first time seeing Connie live. A couple fans mentioned how much they liked Connies kindness and how open she is about her past.
After the show Connies staff set up a table for fans to meet and greet. HUGE LONG LINE of all her fans waiting for autographs which Connie signed for everyone.
For sale was a new CF shirt, gray with a great picture of our gal plus the other design by Michael Dardenelle.
And yes, Connie had her hair nice and poofy.

Very good, Connies presentation was strong at this show, orchestra very in tune with everything. Bobby Hammon (of Style Five Salon in Las Vegas), one of Connies piasanos who follow her everywhere, summed up the show as, She bowled them over! (I asked to elaborate) as in bowling, Connie knocked the audience down. And yes, everyone was definitely wowed at this performance. Singing Edith Piafs La Vie en Rose seems that Connies strongest singing strengths are in other languages but yet her standards are always great as she did with Frank Sinatras song.
Unlike the recent Boston newspaper article saying Connie ran through her monologe like reading from a script, this performance Connie was relaxed and having fun with it like in a conversation. She talked about all the places she has been at with Bobby Grauso (this concert here, performance there, going to Vietnam, etc). and of course, how long have we been together? Bobby answered, 47 years! Connie then said, nobody say what my age is!
Connie wore a pants suit outfit first part of show, and then a stunning black dress for second part of show. Her hair was nice and poofy and makeup very glamourous with sparkly stuff (for you makeover artist let me know the correct technical term). She should have done a professional photoshoot and would be able to make considerable profit selling the prints.
Sound system was pretty good, though this theatre by its inherent design from the 1920s makes poor acoustics for such a concert arrangement but Don Tittle must have done his magic because you can clearly her Connies voice. Maybe some instruments were a little off but you have to be a professional audiophile to spot such. However, this is live, this is the real person, what you see and here is for real. No lipsyncing crap to some CD (recorded by another artist). You get the real Connie at her shows.
Michael Dardenelle stopped by where I was sitting so we swapped Connie stories, glad he tracked me down because I had no idea where to find him (not sure what he looked like). I did see many other fans there as well: Paulette, Cora, Eric, Fran, Nick, Bobby.... Michael talked about the shirt and the difficult logistics of putting it together. He and Mike Church emailed back and forth regarding the artwork and none of them saw the final product until it was finished. Shirts were a big sell at the concert. Earlier in the day, Connie thanked Michael for the work involved in making them. The colors on the shirt are brilliant.
I saw Connie briefly at the meet and greet (and yes I told her how much I enjoyed the show). It was a long line of fans but I had her autograph the Italian Favorites album for the Italian American Heritage Foundation (http://www.iahfsj.org), I also gave her a hardcopy of the paragraph from Nick Clooneys article in Cincinnati Post of what he wrote regarding Connie and Madonna in music. I printed the page from Jonathons March concert countdown webpage (I told Connie to not feel too pressured to start on time).
Took lotsa photos, most photos were too blurry, ones that are reasonable have some blur but hopefully it gives the motions at the time. It is difficult to capture the moment, you have to be there to experience it. Many others took photos and most likely very good ones so send them! Someone asked me a list of all the songs she performed (I didnt tally these) but many others (and you know who you are) can write more definitive music analysis than I can so send it to me for my concert review page.
Photos shown in the background screen along with many video scenes from the fan magazines (My Father Kept Me A Prisoner! maybe the only true fan magazine story?). Of course Bobby Darin shown, including the duet they did on Ed Sullivan with Connie wearing the beautiful white dress.
One of the new photos shown in backdrop was one of Connie with Frank Sinatra. Fan club also mailed this photo to members in quarterly newsletter prior to this show.
Some other things on the concert: I spoke briefly with Scottie Haskell about her singing in commercials and movies. I asked what was the most interesting works, she said all of it was enjoyable. Scottie was able to do the solo performance at the opening of Paris Las Vegas which she spent considerable practice to sing well in French. The movie Matrix Revolutions was particularly challenging for Scottie as the language they were singing in is called Sanskrit. Sanskrit is probably the oldest known language, Scottie mentioned, its actually very sacred in fact when you chant in this language you can feel the energy. Its very cool actually! I wanted to find out more as Im sure she has many interesting stories with all the work in many commercials and movies. Her father is Jimmie Haskell, a composer who worked with many performers including Bobby Darin, and he is still active. His webpage is http://www.jimmiehaskell.com. Another photo of Scottie at http://www.terikoide.com/gallery4b.html
I also talked to Nick who guided Connie from the back to the main stage. Castro theatre stage has a narrow segment for Connie to enter from left, it is only two feet wide with a 18 inch drop at the stairs (which is why she did not enter from the audience rear). Nick had to make sure Connie does not veer off and not trip on a number of cables with bright spotlight on her.
I heard there is not much room behind the stage curtains and behind the stage are cables everywhere with lots of opportunities to trip and fall.
About Connies performance, between songs she said she wanted to move around the stage more but there is not much room. I think she wanted to be more expressive and dance around more if it wasnt for all the speakers and cables taking up what space was left on the stage floor.
Orchestra members, local hires, are always good at Connies shows. She only brings Bobby Grauso, Doug Walters and Don Tittle. But then some concerts have orchestra members better than others. I think these guys were exceptional because Doug spent more time playing the piano instead of directing the orchestra. During the intermission, the orchestra members were relaxed with smiles and chit-chats.
Sheet music shows the overture written by Peter Matzo in Feb 1985.
As far as elouquet elaborate review with excellent prose on the concert, I rely on others to provide that. For me it is basically the usual I enjoy her concerts, her singing, shes beautiful, I want to date her, etc, etc, etc....
Guy Consterdine writes:
The article is from the 11 April 1959 issue of Picturegoer, a legendary UK magazine which alas no longer exists. At school I was an avid reader of Picturegoer, being mad on films as well as music. The photos of Connie from the photo session when this was taken are among my favourites.
Previous night prior to concert Castro theatre showed Where The Boys Are that was actual film, which is better quality than digital.

Comeback Connie Francis (click title for article)

When the likes of Paris Hilton can land record deals and get away with it some may find it downright refreshing that Connie Francis is able rise like a phoenix from the fickle ashes of pop culture and show the world the real secret to longevity: class.

The show in Hong Kong was wonderful. Connie did an amazing job. She diligently spent the entire rehearsal period going over both new and old songs in the show. She added Never On Sunday, Follow The Boys, When The Boy In Your Arms, High Noon, Second Hand Love, and a few others. She had a new arrangement of Hava Nagila. She did a full 90 minute set, and received an standing ovation at the end of her show. I will have pics forthcoming, when I return home.
Last month [April 2006] Connie did four interviews with the press in Hong Kong. They were with RTHK Radio (The Uncle Ray Show), Apple Daily (1,000,000 circulation), SCMP (radio I think), and HK Magazine.
A short message received from a fan:
Connies HK concert was fabulous. Her best in years as it was put!!!

Connie in Boston at Cutler Majestic Theatre
May 5, 2007
by Jack Skelly
I was late because of traffic but was told she opened with Let Me Try Again and had a little problem with the sound. That out of the way she took oved the stage and was Connie once again. Her voice was right on, she looked wonderful, she obviously was enjoying herself and her audience loved her.
My only regret is that its over I wish she was here tomorrow as I would go again. She is an American institution and I cant understand why shes not in the Rock&Roll HOF.
She ended the evening with If I Never Sing Another Song and then came back to do God Bless America to thunderious applause. It was a great evening with a great singer.
God Bless Connie Francis and Thank You Connie for coming to Boston.

Keswick Theater, Glenside, PA (North Philly)
May 5, 2007
by Terry Murtaugh
It all started here in Philly, Connie Francis told the packed crowd in the Keswick Theater. Heads nodded among the 1500 fans-most from the birthplace of American Bandstand where Dick Clark launched Connies career on Jan 1, 1958. So began a terrific night of Connie Francis music with Americas Sweetheart of Song clearly in top form.
The concert started with the moving Let Me Try Again followed by the lively Unchain My Heart-a tribute to Ray Charles. This was the first of several tributes by Connie during the evening: after intermission she also sang a medley of Judy Garlands music, Rock-a-bye Your Baby to salute Al Jolson, and finally a beautiful and poignant Ill Be Seeing You as a video montage of Frank Sinatra pictures and album covers was shown.
But back to the first act: Connies third song was the dynamic You Dont Have to Say You Love Me followed by the most extensive medley of hits-with My Happiness, Many Tears Ago, Dont Break the Heart that Loves You, and Together topping my list of hits that were great to hear live. Later in the show Connie sang a song that could be her own anthem Old Time Rock and Roll. [Editorial: I wish the R&R Hall of Fame induction committee couldve heard her sing that Bob Seger classic. She owns that song!]
One of the highlights early in the show was Connie announcing (with typical self-effacement) that her shoes didnt fit [they were cheap too!] and she needed replacements. Connie continued to ad lib until an assistant brought a new pair - and fans near me commented: Connie is really enjoying herself! If there was one sentence to capture the nights theme-that was it. Connie obviously loved being on stage and performing for her fans-which allowed her fans to have a terrific night loving her right back.
The second act started with the Italian medley and Connie performed an especially strong Malaguena. Another highlight was her rendition of Edith Piafs La Vie en Rose which Connie described as one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The evening ended with Don Blacks If I Never Sing Another Song followed by a standing ovation as Connie sang God Bless America and recounted her memories of singing for the troops in Vietnam.
Bottom line: it was a magical night of being entertained by the awesome musical talent of Miss Connie Francis. I want to die on this stage at 96, Connie announced. No way, Connie. Youll still be going strong at 106!

Movie critic Jan Wahl of KRON-TV Channel 4 began the evening with brief about Castro Theatre, mentioned the ghosts of Robert Mitchem and Ann Miller, and many other past entertainers are all around. She gave a nice introduction about Connie and emphasized how wonderful it is to hear live music.
Frank and Chris add:
Connie sang some of her rock-n-roll hits that made her a mutiple chart topper intermixed with monologues about her early years in fan magazines, along with pictures on the overhead display. What a picnic she must be having, dating all those groovy guys. Wrong! Connie said only one article was perhaps true (My father kept me a prisoner!).
In Italian tradition, Connie belted out Malaguena, Comme Bella A Stagione, Al Di La and Mama (these are difficult songs to sing in first place) with all the emotion.
Later at meet-and-greet, it seemed so many people lined up. I heard they were there till 12:30 am.
Latest news Connie will return in October 13. See Concert Schedule.
Download this beautiful flyer for the March 3 concert (with a sexy pose by Connie).
from Mike Church, Connies business manager
As I am sure many of you have heard, Connie did the best show I have heard in at least 10 years! The show was sold out. The promoter was so pleased, he booked her back on October 13th. I have heard it is already half sold out [ as of March 9 ], so if you want to go, get your tickets now.
Connies backup singer, Scottie Haskell, said she has never seen anything like the way Connie and her fans interact. She was talking with someone who came all the way from Ireland to see Connie. Scottie, daughter of composer Jimmy Haskell, is a session singer who sings for movies and commercials.
Connies soundman Don Tittle said the challenge for this concert is the theatre is a movie theatre, not a concert theatre. He increased the echo for Connies mic so her voice can be heard throughout the theater. Don had to setup way in the back, the horns were down on the floor (stage was too small for all 21 pieces), normally the whole band is on stage or all in the orchestra pit. It was a challenge but they pulled it all together quite nicely. Don is always the soundman at Connies concert because he knows what Connie wants.
They had an excellent orchestra and let Connies conductor Doug Walters have fun with the concert.
Connies swingin drummer Bobby Grauso, 47 years! when Connie asked how long they have performed together. I shouldnt have asked that question! He is the same drummer in her Live at Sahara in Las Vegas LP. He was also a drummer at the Copacabana when Connies conducter at the time needed him for a gig. Bobby has been in Connies orchestra since.

Connie was interviewed on KGO-TV Channel 7 on Friday before the concert. Her reply when asked why she doesnt just put her feet up but instead continues performing at concerts: I love it. I love the people. I love making people happy. Thats one of the great rewards about this business, the ability to reach people and become a part of their lives through my music. She described music as the core of life.
