For Found Pets
Contact neighbors, file a found pet report, place/follow found/lost pet ads in local papers. The dog probably lives within 2-miles of where found, the cat probably lives in the neighborhood (or is returning to an old neighborhood after a move), and a bird probably lives nearby.
Microchip Your Pet. That way, if your pet goes missing and turns up at a shelter or vet's office as a lost pet, you will be called.

San Francisco (29th/Judah). Gray and White Tabby named Zeppelin. White line near right eye blends into whiskers. Zeppelin is skittish;used to roaming backyards in this neighborhood, never been on the streets side and uncharacteristic of him to disappear. He has been missing since May 24, 2006. He has three white legs and one leg (front right leg) with multi markings near paw. Tail, back and head have gray light tabby markings. He had surgery last January 2006, so he has new hair growth on the belly and portion of the neck. He has a microchip in the shoulder area.
